I searched---couldn't find what I was looking for.

Does anyone have a ballpark cost of doing a 5.0 swap? I have a 93 STX I wanna put a 302 into. I am going to go through it, make sure everything looks good. Other than that, just re-gasket it and new oil pump and pan. That cost will be different. I saw the price on the adapters, mounts, but dont have a total cost. I know there are other small costs involved. I am trying to set a budget aside, and am curious what I can expect to spend....

I am doing a swap in an 85 B2, so my needs might be a bit different. I have about 80% of my parts collected and i am at a ballpark of about $750.

Depends how resourseful you can be. Cost can run as above to $10K. Saved this good breakdown of costs from someone elses swap.

If you have to ask you can't afford it.

Not true. I was simply asking how much people spent. I can be fairly resourceful, and plan on doing all the work myself.

VERY true. If you were truly adamant on doing this swap, you would start collecting parts or you would start researching what parts you will need and then start pricing them out in your area. After that, add up all of the little "extras" you'd think about adding, the add another $250 to your budget.

Only $250 for "misc."? I put $500 in for that just to do a clutch.

That's $250 OVER your pre-planned budget.

Yeah, $90 for a clutch kit, $35 for the flyhwheel turn, $80 for a slave and about $500 for "other".

It's just something you have to do when working on my truck.

I usually don't worry about budgets. I see the part I'd like, save up for it, and get it. Then again, I save all my parts until I have everything I THINK I'll need. Then I'll start the swap. If I need something more, I'll just save up for it due to the truck not being my daily driver

That-----That is kinda what I was hoping someone would put up. The little crap I would forget. Perhaps I should have asked people to post up the little expenses I knew I would forget. I was so busy worried about the motor mounts and crossmembers, I never even thought about putting a new clutch in it....:annoyed:

fast, realiable and cheap.....pick two of the three. Yes some will luck into some great parts for next to nothing but that isn't always normal. A lot is going to depend on what you want to run and are going to use it for. You'll be spending more money on getting a daily driver right than a weekend beater. It's kinda hard to price being all the different combinations and modifications. I am in the $10k+ club; the engine alone was more then most people swap budgets. Best budget i can give you was for the V8 S10 I recently did. Rebuilt engine, aluminum heads, rebuilt 700R, Explorer 8.8 and a few other small goodies and it's at $5k for that swap. No labor being I did everything, minus build the driveshaft due to time. That's for a vehicle that's driven with no worries.

Also depends on if you get a running setup out of a donar and just transfer it all right to your rig without going through it or taking the time to clean it up, go through it etc...

Im like $1200 with mine and that got it driving. But Im still not done as I need to mod the trans crossmember to clear a front driveshaft, find a better carb, etc...

I also used stuff I had laying around and made some stuff instead of buying alot of it and also shopped around for the best deals on stuff that I had to buy.

Was it all worth it in the end......yes.
