My trucks got a 7.5" 3.73 open diff. When I got the truck I changed the rear end fluid and found broke teeth on one of the spider gears. So my question is what would it take for me to swap a 31 spline 8.8 in its place?

You get a 31 spline 8.8 off an explorer.
cut off the spring pads off the bottom of the axel, and weld them on the top.
Install in truck.

A "Random Thought " I'm not sure but, you may have to do something with the shock mounts ? Welcome to the club.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
If you're keeping the 3.0, a 7.5 should be plenty and a 28 spline 8.8 would be more than you need. A 28 spline 8.8 out of a Ranger would be an easier swap, too. Mustang GT's used 7.5's through the 85 model year and my 13 second Mustang and 351 Ranger both have 28 spline 8" rears.

Yea I've looked around at a few places and i think ima just go with another 7.5" for the time being. Reason being that it's more cost effective right now if I go the 7.5" route. Which will give me more wiggle room on some other parts I need to have it road legal. I appreciate all the input!
