Hello, I'm new here and looking for any kind of help.
I have a 1996 ranger stx 4x4 with 4.0.
The speedometer isn't working, it will work for about 10 minutes or so every morning and then it'll stay on 0 the rest of the day. I have replaced the sensor on the rear differential, speed sensor on the side of my transfer case and also have replaced the dash cluster. I'm assuming it would not be a broken wire because it works in the morning and then quits for the rest of the day. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Could be an issue with the tone ring (what the speed sensor reads) in the rear diff.

How would I know, is there a way to test it?

I forgot to mention that once in a great while my ABS light will come on but if I turn the key off and turn it back on quickly it goes out. When the speedometer is working of a morning according to the GPS it is accurate.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
We had some problems with the flange nut at the back of the transfer case loosening and allowing the speedometer(speed sensor) drive gear to slip. You can drop the front of the driveshaft and check the torque quickly and for free.
