i own a set of four in the grill, but i came up with an exciting idea at work today, y not hook up the strobes from fire alarm systems, like at schools and walgreens, i was demoing a building today and pulled 12 off the wall, and left 4 in my truck, i hooked it up to the battery, and they work, just under their own motherboard, and i cant seem to be able to figure out how to just get the light, i have a strobe (brain) as i would put it that controls the lights, i just want brighter ones, any one know if i can convert these to be my strobes or if anyone knows where to get just the stobe bulbs??

My uncle has the in his van. Headlights, taillights, running board lights, and the lights over the cab are all able to have the strobe effect. I talk to him tomorrow and see how he did it.

It wouldn't work because fire alarm strobes are 24v where your truck is a 12v system.

They will work...somewhat. One of our call firefighters put some in his truck a few years ago and the did run off 12 volts, but they flashed at a much slower rate. Also, depending on where you live white or red strobes can be illegal for use without a permit, even when sitting in a parking lot.

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
get a wigwag controller. but keep in mind the legality of what you are doing.

seems to me I seen strobing turn signals and brake lights on a tractor trailer and the DOT bear told me they were perfectly legal.
