Go to Harbor Freight on get a robot gun and some POM rivets. They are made of plastic and have good holding power. Easy to drill out when needed.

I got longer 1/4” bolts, put through the backside of bumper & a drop of loctite with a nut, bolt stays put & a 2nd nut (nylon locking) retains the plate.

All-thread with nuts and washers, straight through to the front bumper. Then it will hold the front license plate, too.

on my front plate I used self-drilling screws, then ohio dropped the front plate requirement and it got tossed in the scrap corner with the other 2 vehicle front plates.

Yes I've thought about the nut and bolt idea. But every year I need to pull off the license plate to scrape the old sticker off (California). A little inconvenient but do-able. Thanks.

We had yearly stickers here for 30 some odd years. I think they did away with them in 2013 or so, but they started in 1977. We all just put the new sticker over top of the old one.

Find the square replacement inserts at your local auto parts store - use a drill/Dremel/razor knife to open the hole JUST large enough to fit the insert.
WHEN the insert goes bad, pop it out and insert a new one.

Stick a toothpick or match stem in the hole and put the screw in.

I use the cut off pieces of plastic zip ties. shove one or two in there and they take up the slack, and the screw threads the plastic.

I like that. Thanks Grumpaw - I'm sure I can find some of those drywall anchors in the garage. I was going to buy a Rivnut Tool but started thinking, why spend $25.00 to fix this silly license plate screw hole and I probably would never use the Rivnut Tool again....

We have to get new stickers every 2 years here and the only time I scrape them off is when they get really built up, every 10 years or more. We just put the new one over the old after a quick wipe with Rubbing Alcohol to make sure it adheres properly. I do mine in the middle of winter and still don't have issues with it adhering to the plate.

I learned long ago that the thicker these stickers get, the easier it is for a thief to scrape the stack off without damaging the top sticker, and re-gluing the stack to their license plate when they don't want to pay for a new registration sticker for their car. Cops think you are current on your registration if you are displaying the currently proper color sticker so you won't get pulled over with an expired sticker.... I even go one step farther and not only do I keep only one sticker on my plate, but once I have the new sticker stuck well onto my plate, I take a razor blade and put an "X" into the sticker and maybe a few more cuts. This way, if a thief tries to steal the sticker, it deters them once it starts coming apart in pieces or hopefully they see the cuts before they even attempt to remove it...... Just an old habit I have. Plus, it really does look tacky when a car has many years of stickers stacked on top of each other.
