Can someone give me the size of the factory speakers in the doors, and the factory rear corner mounted speakers on the 2000 Sport? I am looking to upgrade, but really dont want to go into the door panel removal till I have to. :)

My belief is you can install 6x8 speakers all around. Check out Crutchfield for some great recommendations based specifically on your model.

and as I’ve found out, 5x7 is universally accepted as the exact same thing as 6x8.

Make sure to upgrade stock microphones while you are changing speakers.

Your exhaust leak is making you hard to hear at times.

They should be 6x8 speakers. You can get the little adapters to plug the factory harness into the new speaker (Metra 72-5600 should be the right part, double check). They are relatively cheap and make the process a little easier. I used Pioneer 6x8 G series, which are a very nice upgrade from the factory ones. I was able to replace all 4 speakers with the adapters for about $100. You may be tempted to get a cheap pair of speakers, but its not worth it, trust me.

Another thing to consider is, will you be upgrading your head unit at some point, and adding an amplifier? That would play into the speaker decision as well.

i notice that some truck had higher levels of systems installed? did some come with some type of factory amp and nicer speakers, as well? or is it just some came with more speakers and cd changer or holder in the radio?

I’m curious about this too. I’d like to know what the official offerings were. Best I could find is to look behind the passenger kick panel for an amp.

Some of the later trucks, I don't know what year it started, had the optional subwoofer in the center console. The set of speakers in the front door were component style (woofer and tweeter separate). The stereo pretty much just has a plug in spot for a subwoofer with a small amp located in the console. They referred to it as the "Pioneer Audiophile Sound System". My truck has it, and it was certainly not the best factory stereo offering, but it performed quite well. A few years ago, I upgraded the speakers with Pioneer G-series 6x8's, and the sound improved quite a bit.
