The Tech Library says some rangers came with 4.56's from the factory. I guess they must be very rare, because I've never came across one. Does anyone know what rangers to look for? Was it just fleet trucks, or fx4 models?

The only one's Ive seen with factory 4.56's were fleet vehicles, like the dually suburbans you used to find around here. I've heard they are more common in the non-north american rangers but they also have different diffrentials in some cases as well. And yes, they are very rare.

If you did find one, what do you think those axles would go for?

I only one I've seen was wrote off in a wrecking yard. Axles at that time were $200 up front and $125 out back. I would have grabbed them, but the beams were bent to sh!t and I was goin SAS anyways.

WAHLSTROM1, thanks. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open. I'm just affraid of setting up a ring and pinion, I would rather just swap axles instead.(not solid, I actually like the ttb dana35) Plus I don't know of any shops in my area that I trust to install gears.

Sorry to say, but you probably have a better chance of winning the lottery this year then finding a truck with 4.56's in the parts yards....If you keep an eye open on here, and a few of the other RBV site's you may be able to find someone selling their's already setup, broke in etc.

Factory 4.56's came only on 4x2 chassis-cabs with the payload package. Rare as hen's teeth. No point in looking for them when you can easily buy aftermarket gears.

Only in the 4x2, man that sucks. I guess it's about time I learn how to set up a ring and pinion. It took me 3 days to install my clutch properly last summer(mostly because of rust!!!), gears will probably be something like a week.
