I came across this weird little electric 3 inch “turbo” that says it builds 3 pounds of boost, which doesn’t sound too bad, and doesn’t look like it would be hard to integrate into my current cold air intake system, I don’t know much about forced induction but would this even be a project worth doing? It’s like 50 dollars for the turbo and the wiring should be easy, as long as it got be an extra 20 hp out of my 4.0 I would be happy, could the internals even handle that small boost? I’ve seen some people saying no, others say yes, anyone ever done a similar project?

I would pass on that. I used to see those in JC Whitney books over a decade ago. Like a little electric fan that plumbs inline of the intake tube, right?

If it were that easy to boost a vehicle, more people would be doing it that way.

While the Ranger 4.0 internals could probably handle 3lbs of boost, this machine will likely not provide that, if any.

You need the biggest baddest leaf blowers available....two.

It would help.

There is a legit electric turbo. But it's 1200 for the lowest model

I’ve seen those types of “electronic turbos” but no, this is essentially a normal turbo just With a motor attached to run it, they look fairly standard in that aspect, they don’t offer much in terms of specs but I would imagine it would be able to build a few pounds Atleast, they offer a “230+ cfm” spec but that’s about it, I found a similar product eairler that said “up to 3 psi boost” but none of the others say that , can’t find that specific product listing on eBay anymore they all look about the same[/QUOTE]

A 4.0 would handle 3lbs boost no problem.

But those little electric ebay turbos are nothing but snake oil. They wouldnt build enough boost for a power difference on a 3.5hp pushmower. Save your money.

They actually may be of use on an old lawn mower. I’ve seen someone use an old smog pump off a car to supercharge a lawnmower.

I have seen the breakdown on the amperage it takes just to keep up with an engine's intake air volume with a 12volt motor. It is catastrophic! Are the leads to the twinkie motor about #4 copper? They need to be.
Here is a fun video to watch on this topic:
Start at the 7:25 point in the video.

I watched the "Photo Mikes Garage" video you sent. Totally agree with him.
