My 2.8 blew out the transistor pack mounted below and on the distributor. Crazy hard to change without pulling the distb, but twice that was the issue. EEC-IV ignition system. When it failed, it turned over, however no start. Smelled like gas.

Is yours running rich? Smell like gas when you wipe your finger inside the tailpipe? Or, might be the Cat is plugged. If it won't blow out a rag loosely placed in the tailpipe, could be. Why do I keep talking about tailpipes? Good luck & please let us know what your outcome is.

Ok. Fixed it. I'm bald now after this mess, but I mean I did everything to her 3 times. After 3rd distributor ignition module, I finally broke down and bought a factory fomoco ignition module. Frinin truck runs like a top. 3 bad China orylies ignition modules later. Just a heads up dont buy that China crap. Thanks for all the tips and help everyone much appreciated.

My credo
Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Sounds like another vote for "Parts Are Crap These Days".

Congratulations on getting it sorted out.
