Anyone else have this sharp squeak before?

I recorded it with my phone held under the steering wheel. It usually it the worst when on bumpy roads. I was going about 100km/h when that was recorded.

SQUEAK

My credo
Keep your mind like an umbrella, it only works if its open... Continually learning.
It's hard for me to hear it. But I had other noises going on. Any aftermarket items installed near the column? Do you hear it sitting still turning the wheel back and forth?

Im guessing its a mouse in the steering column?

Seriously though no idea other than just checking the bolts under the dash that support the column are tight.

Nothing I can tell. No sound when turning the wheel at a stop

HA! I'll check the bolts. Now that I think of it the cruisecontrol on the steeringwheel also doesnt work....not that I ever use it.

Anything else I should do other than disconnecting the battery to ensure the airbag doesnt go off in my face?

I dunno if its necessary or not but if you take both terminals off the battery and touch them together for 10 or so seconds it will ensure there is also no power left in any of the ecm capacitors...

Turn the noise cancellation dial to the right a bit.

Or wrap the wheel in duct tape. SOLVED!

I got a notice in the mail today about an urgent airbag recall on my truck. I'll have Mazda replace the bag and maybe the squeak will be gone!!

Looks like the nearest Mazda dealer is 4hr drive away.....I hope Mazda will let a more local shop do the work?

I would think a ford dealer would also do it?

I'm in the process of trying to arrange this, I opened a ticket with Mazda Corp. The local Ford dealer (in town) is willing to do it but they are unsure how to get the parts and where to send the bill - the guy told me he's tried before but was ignored by Mazda.
