Hi I have a 2001 xlt with a 2.3L and 5sp manual (2wd). The truck was originally a std cab short bed but I actually stole the frame off of it to rebuild a different truck that needed a new short bed frame. I am planning to throw the cab, engine, and trans onto a spare long bed frame I have but cannot figure out what length driveshaft I need to make the swap work. As far as I can tell the std cab long bed frame is the 118" wheelbase, (plz correct me if im wrong). I cant seem to find a driveshaft listed anywhere that is compatible with this engine/trans/frame length configuration. If anyone has a truck with this setup, knows what length driveshaft I need, and/or knows where I can get one it would be greatly appreciated.

I went to www.car-part.com and plugged in your truck and looked for a driveshaft. Here are the options in 2001 for a ranger.

The one you are looking for is 5th from the bottom? I selected that and used Pennsylvania and nothing came up. I then selected the whole country, and this is what came up. I didn't copy all of them, just what seemed to be close to Pa.

So.... why wouldn't you just put the parts together, and see how long of a driveshaft you end up needing????

??? Thank you for providing zero assistance
Lets just take a deep breath...

No need for anyone to get their panties in a bunch over a driveshaft... then report unhelpful posts. I think he was trying to say that for 2001 they (rockauto) don't list what you want... I'm sure @Fredness meant you no harm with his answer.

You think I should ban him for trying to help you? Not gonna happen... like I said... take a deep breath. This is the internet... it's like a box of chocolates.

It appears the driveshaft you want is available... go find one if you can. If not... measure it up and have one made.

I was hoping to get a confirmation from somebody who possibly has done this before or knew all the driveshaft lengths before hand.. that way I can either order one or have one made while I’m doing the rebuild and not get stuck waiting for one Piece. I ask a simple question hoping to get help and all I get are responses like this. Thanks again for nothing

You might do a little legwork but for 4wd the automatic and manual transmisssions are the same length, I do not know how a 2wd compares to that theory though.

For mine (which is standard cab longbed but 4wd) I found a driveshaft from a late model 4wd Supercab and had a driveshaft shop shorten it for $75. If you get in a bind you could do the same from a 2wd scab.

@adsm08 might know about the transmission length differences.

Car-part is usually pretty good with their parts interchange. If they listed all those different shafts, then there is a good bet each one has something different about it, whether major or minor.

I did a swap on my 89 f250. It was originally a diesel c6. I bought another 89, an original diesel zf 5 speed, and swapped transmissions. Same year trucks. The driveshaft out of the zf truck was twice as heavy weight wise, and had larger u-joints in it. I could have used the c6 driveshaft, it would have barely fit but I think it would have worked. But the zf driveshaft fit better, but I had to swap the yokes on the rearend to accept the larger u-joints. Strange how they did things sometimes.

They like to monkey with things.

But then I have a driveshaft from a '99 Ranger between a '77 F-250 t-case and a '96 Explorer rear axle and I didn't change a thing other than the length of the driveshaft. Same for the 95 Ranger front shaft going to a '95 Ranger front axle.

I just, last Friday, had a shaft made for a '95 standard cab long bed manual transmission. It is 61 1/4 inches long from the tail shaft to the mounting flange (rear axle). That is what the shop needed to make a new shaft. If you find one at a junkyard, measure from the mounting flange to the color change on the yoke where the tailshaft seal rides. The seal and the tailshaft are almost even, maybe a 1/4 inch difference.
