I have just got a 87 - Bronco II given to my son. The only issue is about every 4th time you start the truck, the starter keeps running and wont stop. I have replaced the starter and the solenoid and it is still doing it. I have to pull the positive battery cable to get it to stop. Any suggestions??

ignition maybe? is the key returning to the run position and its not sticking anywhere as you turn it? these bII are know for ignition failure but let some others chime in on this.

possible short to power?, are you in a northern state?, have you replaced the starter with a new/remanufactured or a junk yard/used one?

try using a remote start switch at the relay to try and start it to see if it still happens. If you, you probably have an ignition switch issue, if not, then the problem is elsewhere. What type of parts did you use to replace things with, used, rebuilt, or new?

Really there's only three components here. The ign switch, the solenoid (relay) and the starter. If you've replaced the second two with quality parts, that only leaves the ign switch. I like fordwheelinman's idea. Try it with a remote start switch. If the problem doesn't occur, it's most likely the ignition switch.. 22 years equates to a lot of starts. Let us know what you find!

There is one possible "Zebra" that would explain the symptom other than
an ignition switch but before I discuss is replace the switch anyway...

Is this Bronco2 an automatic trans?
