Driving home today the speedometer went crazy, I was about halfway home and had just looked at the speedometer to see where it was (about 60) as Im looking at it , it swings to full right, I heard a small “tick” like the needle hit a peg (but I dont think this series has a max peg) . It stayed there and is still maxed out, odometer is still working, so I dont think its a cable issue. Good thing I have a old tomtom gps, I’ll just rig it in the open ashtray to have a speedometer for the time being. I already have a loud exhaust, dont need to also get nailed for speed.

Keep your mind like an umbrella, it only works if its open... Continually learning.
My ESP tells me that you have red/blue lights in your future. LOL

I'd be worried about the alternator too.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Sounds like something broke in the actual speedo.

well on the bright side, this is the only way my ranger could ever see “95”. lol .Id of expected it if I had been driving it hard, but just driving normally it did this. Alternator is ok, I have a diesel tach that gets its signal off the alternator, Id know right away if it went south, Think I replaced it about 4 years ago, Ive barely put 20K miles on it in the 5 years Ive had this truck. Having a short commute helps, that and I park it for the most part during the winter to keep it out of the salt bath.

I just went out & set up my old tomtom gps so Id have a clue about my ground speed, I tapped hard on the guage cluster with my fingers near the speedometer and the needle unstuck & returned to zero. Who knows, maybe it will work right tomorrow. Im too tired to care right now, yucky cold day here, had 2” of snow by 2:00. mostly melted now but still quite cold. Supposed to be 80 on sat/sun. If I felt up to it Id put the front blade on the lawn deere & get a picture of it pushing snow & mowing at the same time. But I dont, time for a hot beverage by the fire with a few dvr recordings of roadkill/roadkill garage to catch up on.

Today- speedometer reads high, but varys, sometimes its just 5mph high, other times its over 20mph high. Hasnt done what it did yesterday, weird to see it at 45 before I even get in to 3rd gear. Odometer seems correct, guess I can still check my mpg. Might see ifI can get a fleabay cluster.
