Hi folks! This is my first question for The Ranger Station. My 99 Ranger has the stock stereo system in it. A couple years or so ago I started noticing noise coming from the speakers even without any power on the truck at all. Engine off, key out of ignition, stereo off and I'm just sitting in the truck or standing beside it and suddenly the speakers (all of them) will start poping and growling. The stereo system, clock, tape player all works fine otherwise. (Great Sounds).

I've been noticing that sometime my battery would be weak when I go the start the truck and I'm thinking that the speakers are the cause. But I can't for the life of me figure out why those speakers are getting power when everything is shut down.

Any ideas about this problem? Thanks in advance, RDRanger99

for some reason your speakers seem to be drawing power even when you aren't telling them to (stereo on)

sounds like you might have a constant power source (clock, something constantly powered up, like radio so it saves your favorites on the radio etc) bridged over to a wire heading to the speakers...

try seeing if any shops in town (best buy, other stereo install stores) will take a look at it for you for free.

if u can, try to test the wires using a voltmeter and see if you can trace back where the power is coming from.

It happens when there is a problem on the electrical part. Probably there is a current that jumps out and consumes the battery. You should check on the electrical system and connections to the stereo.

Sounds like me you have a wire shorted out(meanig ground making contact with positive wire somewhere) If your radio is wired up correctly then it most likely has something to do withthe (probably) yellow wire which is the constant wire, its on when everything is off and runs about 5 volts. if this wire is loose it will cause a speaker pop everytime it makes contact. If it is grounding out then it will cause a drain on your battery. Youll def notice a grounding situation or short if your battery if producing excess corrosion on the terminals.
