1996 K1500 Suburban 5.7, 204,000 miles

Under hard acceleration I can hear a noise from the engine, sounds kind of like detonation. No engine codes. I got a code about a year ago for an EGR related problem, but never since.

Fuel pressure is 55 engine off, 52 engine idling, and 60 if I put it in gear and give it gas while holding the brake.

Does it with a stock puter and my Black Bear tuned puter. Did it before and after the following parts...

Recently replaced for other reasons... plugs, wires, cap, rotor, O2 sensors.

Where to start?

I have a ScanGauge II that has an "ignition" setting in it. can this be used to tell if my ignition is changing as it should be?

the knock sensor on the passenger side between the exhaust ports likes to come disconnected or just fail and could cause knocking.

use a timing light and watch the timing as you tap the exhaust manifold with a screwdriver.. the timing should move around when you tap.. if it doesn't its probably something wrong with the knock sensor

Thanks for the info on how to test it. I suspected the knock sensor as a potential problem and it was still connected when I looked at it although I had no idea how to test it.

I'll test it tomorrow and let you how it goes.
