Does it have a resonator on it? If so remove that and it will sound awesome.

I just put the same muffler on my 98 explorer and loved the sound but the drone was too much so I put the resonator back on.

If you go to a 2.5 inch tailpipe it will sound even better. I plan to do that with mine

All depends on how your exhaust is setup. Do you have it dumped, hooked up to the stock piping out the back, dumped out the side? Whatever you have, upgrading after the muffler to 2.5 will make it sound deeper. And like you said, after the break in period, it will get "louder-ish" and sound even deeper.

put your original muffler on, drill a few holes in it, and you get a loud sound =)

Some aftermarket muffler have "batting" in them. its like a fiberglass mat wrapped around all the chambers and tubes in the muffler. i know for a fact thrush weldeds do no have any batting in them. the cheaper thrushes and glasspack do though. so eventually the batting will break loose and blow out of the muffler. thus why glasspacks sound like straight pipe after about 6 months.. to answer your question..... No, your truck will not get any louder but you can make it very irritating for people next to you if you do a side dump:icon_thumby::headbang:
