I have an 02 Ranger Edge. It is not 4x4 and has an open diff. I just moved up to the Albany NY area. I have had the truck 2 winters in northern NJ. It drive like a mustang in the winter, A$$ all over the road and can not get itself out of its own hole. I have been looking a lockers particularly the PowerTrax No-Slip (please no detriots etc, this is an on your back in the driveway job and I am not REMOVING ring and pinion, PERIOD). I would like to get some real feed back on those with torque lockers, IE lunchbox lockers, and what issues I face using in the snow. I do not go off road (not at least intentionally). I had assumed it would help with driving in the snow, but I have see other write-ups that mention snow and then steer clear of driving a locker in the snow. Please let me know your experiances with lockers and snowy roads.

Thanks

A drop-in locker will definitely help you out in the snow. Some people say that behave unpredictably, but I have found that to be untrue. My lock-right behaves the same all the time: It's locked. It will take a little getting used to, but nothing too crazy. With that and some weight in the bed (if you don't have it already) should get you where you need to go.

+1 on the post above.

I wasn't sure at first when I put my lockright in the rear of my bronco II, but after this years snow fall I actually really do enjoy it. It took awhile to get used to but it is very predictable once you know how it drives.

I enjoy mine in the snow, in 4x4 you'd hardly know it's back there.

On a 4x4 yes!! on a 2x4 daily driver, not so much....I had a powertrax lockrite in the rear of my 4x4 BII for 30k and loved it in the snow.. however I debated putting it in my 2wd ranger because my driveway is a turning hill with 6 foot drop offs on both sides. I notice that with the locker on ice the back end slides out of control much easier because both wheels are spinning and free to sideways movement. The 4x4 BII was easy to bring under control with the front tires engaged. For that reason alone I know that it will get me further up my drive on a bad day having 2 wheels to push but it will also be much more likely to get me out of control and end up over the 6 foot drop offs.... I will say that for flat land driving and with alot of weight in the back it works better... but I would not purchase a locker for the sole purpose of better traction in the snow. Just save the 300 bucks and put it towards a 4x4 in my opinion...

I've had a "No-Slip" in my 4x4 for over 30K miles with no problem. Just got another set for my '01' 4x2, yes I like mine.

I have a lock rite in my 2wd and it makes a world of difference. I always know both wheels are turning, and definitly a little weight in the back is awesome
