Slipping on manual trans and transfer case?

I just developed a weird slipping effect.
When letting off the clutch I feel a slip and then it catches and goes. Almost like a gear tooth slip. It will slip once and drive. I was loading my truck on a trailer and as I drove up the ramps it slipped a few times as it drove up the ramps.
could it be in the transmission or transfer case?

That's kinda what a broken spider gear sounds like, or if limited slip the first signs of the spider gears being worn to nothing and slipping. The transfer case in 4x2 should be solid unless it was ran dry until something broke but then it would make more racket than that... In my explorer when I got it the spider gears looked like the attached picture, it made a heck of a clicking noise when I pulled it on the trailer...

How old is the clutch disc?

Wouldn't think trans or transfer case, rear differential maybe, as scotts90 said

I have a lunchbox locker in the rear. Could it be that? The clutch discs are about a year old.

How old is the lunchbox locker?
They tend to wear out on rear differentials and that could be the issue

Using this type of locker on the front differential, as long as you can unlock the hubs, is best, as they are not used that often and you get better 4WD when needed

When my aussie died it went from working just fine to clicking every couple hundred yards driving on the pavement and when you put some power to it it would just slip like crazy... that said, could be the locker in the middle of ratcheting and just grabbing when there's load on it.

How old is the clutch? Chances are, that’s your problem.
