If you are going to go the bed cap route, I strongly recommend fiberglass over aluminum. Aluminum can get very loud in the rain and there won’t be much sleep happening.
Those bed tents seem to have some appeal for those who don’t care to have a bed cap.
Cloth bed caps might be a decent compromise of the two but I have no experience with them.
