Simple things you hate doing?

Ive never replaced drum brakes more than once per vehicle during ownership. Even the ‘93 ranger I had longer than any other vehicle, I put drums on it once (along with areostar spec drums) but the front disc pads were changed out every 2-3 years, put one new set of rotors on it. Had that truck for 14 years, bought it at 60K miles, retired it at 180K. motor was still good (4.0 ohv) but it was on its 2nd transmission and it was getting noisy, didnt like to downshift without double-clutching. pitman shaft seal went out on steering box and frame had major rot behind the right front shock tower. Frame was bent too, had to remove right rear lift block for rear of truck to sit level.
Still was my favorite truck though.

My mustang originally had 4 wheel drum... yea those need to come apart at least once a year unless you enjoy swerving into oncoming traffic everytime you hit the brakes.

for about a month I had a 71 bronco. 302/3 on tree, 4.10’s- had manual steering, 4-wheel drum with no brake booster. it was very well worn and had no business on the road anymore. I traded it even up for a 82 mecury zepher z-7. I wish the bronco wasnt so wore out, would of loved to kept it. It just was too wore out to drive daily. Its also the only manual steering and 3-speed coulmn shift manual Ive ever drove.

I had 67 Chevy c10 with a 232 strsight six and a 3 on the tree, non synchronized first gear, 4 wheel manual drum, manual steering and a broomstick for a fuel guage. Bought it sight unseen in NC and drove it 600 miles home to NJ in December with no heat. First manual transmission I ever drove. That was uh, a very interesting trip to say the least. Took around 15 hours.

Rear drum brakes aren't that bad as long as you do preventative maintenance on them. I've rarely had to do much more than that with them other than say, a complete shoe, drum, and hardware change after the vehicle is about 15 years old or so. Front drums, I've never have a vehicle with them. One thing that I'm perfectly happy to not go back to that.

Rear disc brakes? My experience with them has not been great compared to drums. Speaking of which, I have to get around to replacing the rear rotors and pads on the 2011 soon. The rotors warped thanks to the nice people who loosened my lug nuts in the middle of the night some time back. The jury is still out on the 2019 since it is still new. Maybe it will be better since the truck was designed with rear discs from the beginning....

my experience with rear disc is limited, but from what Ive seen, if it needs front pads, it probably needs rear ones too. At least the 2 vehicles with 4 wheel disc Ive done ended up that way, a trailblazer & uplander van.

Any braking is sufficent if you pay attention.

Maybe its my opinion, but i always thought 4wheel drums stopped just as good as disc, they just heated up faster

not in the rain, then 4 wheel drum brakes don't stop at all. I had to drive a few back in high school.

Bad backing plates? I dont recall an issue.
