shoulder surgery this morning. bone spurs and a small rotator cuff tear. not nearly as bad as my left shoulder 8 years ago. can only type with my left hand so caps and punctuation will be off for a while. nerve block hasn't worn off so it doesn't hurt yet and i have all sorts of velcro crap to keep me from moving anything.

U had my right shoulder done. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The therapy after wasn't too bad either. I followed it religiously so as to get bad to full function as soon as possible. I really didn't use much in pain killers either. Maybe some aspirin. The Vicodin or whatever they gave me nauseated my stomach and made me feel hyped up. So, I stopped taking it after a day of trying it.

You can still get vicodin!?! I had 5 teeth pulled at once last year (all imacted, one was buried in my jaw bone and I was spitting broken tooth chunks out of my bloody gums for a week) the pain was excruciating and the doctor told me to take motrin.

Thanks for ruining it for everyone heroin addicts!

Anyway, get better soon!

problem with vicodin is that it makes you constipated. couple glasses of metamucil yesterday and today and only pooped once since surgery on tuesday. had to wipe with my left hand, which didn't feel right.

I had a quite a bit of old injuries in mine before the shoulder dislocation. One of the bicep muscles and some of the nerves got damaged from the dislocation. The nerve issues didn't completely go away until I got carpal tunnel surgery done. I imagine my left shoulder will need to get done eventually but not yet.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I've had the thumb joints in both hands rebuilt, left side first because it was in worse shape. When they did the right one I learned to write somewhat with my left hand, got so I could shave without bleeding, and struggled to brush my teeth left handed. Wiping left handed was tougher than everything else. Things that you do automatically are apparent when you're down to one hand. I've been given opiates several times and get off them as soon as possible because I hate the way they make me feel- dopey and numb- but it did give me some sympathy for liberals.

I had to do similar. Thankfully, my job somewhat prepared me for that. I could write legibly left handed but it looked like an elementary kid school did it. That might have been the hardest part of the whole thing.

Johnny, I hope your recovery and healing goes well.

Some parts of this thread are very informative.

I had surgery on both thumbs in 2017 for arthritis, three months apart. they remove a small bone in the base where the arthritis is and relocate a tendon from my wrist to replace the bone. i'm symmetrical now, had surgery on both thumbs, both elbows (also bone spurs), left shoulder (rotator cuff), now right shoulder (bone spurs and rotator cuff).

i remember the last TRS trail ride i was on (until last year), around 2006, i had a cast on one arm from elbow surgery and Jim Oaks had a cast on one arm from a car accident.
