Should I save this fx4?

As the owner of a 02 FX4 with over 300K miles on it, I say save it. The biggest cost should be the timing chain guides. It might be easier to buy a good used engine.

I am guessing the salvage title is due to a front-end impact. When they replaced the grill, they used the wrong one. There is nothing wrong with that, it is just not a 02 FX4 grill.
Ya I noticed that the grille was not original and neither is the header panel. As for replacing it, I’m an OEM type guy and will be hitting the yard soon unless I can find a complete truck with all the body panels I need and I would buy that instead…
I actually happen to be parting out a 2005 sport trac that has been rolled so I have the motor part taken care of since the buyer for the engine backed out.

If you have a use for it, I would fix it up. Those level IIs are a pretty rare thing. The only thing that might be more rare is a 2.3 4X4. I wouldn't mind having one.

I was going to ask where in N. Idaho you were from as I have a 4.0 SoHC from an Explorer Sport, but if you already have one, you don't need mine.

On the other hand, if you want it to go to a good home, I might be close enough.

Believe it or not I actually have both! I have the Mazda b2300 that’s 4x4 and now this one…. Lucky I guess

I think we are gonna do a mild “restoration” on it and get her back to useable :) I am in sandpoint / CDA area…. I could always use an engine… how many miles and what condition?

If you do part it out, I would be interested in the wheels.

Not parting out at this point but will keep y’all in mind if I do go that route. Right now I’m looking for some parts to try to get it going….. if I’m not successful I may entertain parting out

and now the scavengers are encroaching......

Hey, that beast has a way of turning itself into a "stay away & don't touch me", "you can't have any of this". Going to break off a cat, wear out the chain guides, dent a couple of doors in, but hey! It's only small stuff. Talk about great bones. You can't turn it away. Just think about the story that you will tell about how unloved she was in her black robe. On the other hand my 07 yellow (screaming yellow) level II is always a looker, but she still requires the love & upkeep. Needs valve cover and rear diff seal service, but off road, man!

What are the diff ratios? Can you post a pic of the door tag? I have 4.10 LSD, running 32s. If you have time and the inspiration, some minor work (+ the chain tensioners) can get you big $$. Good luck and stay in touch.

i went home and was bored so i went on marketplace and searched ranger fx4.

two fx4 level2 showed up near me for sale. one is beautiful and they want 9k and the other needs the parts moved to a donor truck and he wants 3500ish.

and they are both 5 speed trucks so the 3500 one would be super cool if in ad the guy didn't say its not safe to drive because the rust

Mine has the 4.10 LSD as well. Since my son has heard me talk about the fx4 rangers so much, he has helped with my decision to fix it up. He wants to help fix it up and drive it too.
As for time and inspiration,… I work from home so I look at that truck all day with big ideas and plans

$3500 isn’t terrible at all as long as it’s not totally ratted out with high miles!

its so rusty. i had to change what i wrote on the other post, i got stopped three times while typing from people coming and asking questions about stuff here at work and it messed me up.

so, its very rusty and not safe to drive he says. he put in the ad to bring a trailer. its got like 115k miles and runs good he said, but he wouldn't drive it on the street because of hte rust
