My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
If its like the older ones, a bit of heat and some persistent persuasion should do it. The shaft is splined, not threaded. Therein lies the frustration. Most aftermarket knobs seem to be threaded. So, search for an adapter or maybe epoxy something on. Or, replace the whole shifter with something else.

the grey-t escape
if you have some hot days left, park it outside with the windows up. Or take the whole lever off, bring it in the house & place in a boiling pot of water for about 5 min. Have some leather welding gloves on & it should pull right off.

+1 ^^^

Knob needs a bit of heat, it is glued on, glue will soften with heat and knob will expand a bit, once its warmed up, put correct size open end wrench under knob and tap it up with hammer

Google: universal shift knob adapter

These slide over the splines and are held in place by a set key and you can then use the screw on type

Drill a hole in something. Epoxy or gorilla glue or practically anything else will keep it on. Even latex caulk.

I peel the boot down a little bit and use a blunt chisel to drive the shift knob off. Works most of the time unless it's been glued on previously. If you try twisting it, you're guaranteed to destroy it.
