Shift fork problem

Took transmission out while it was not in neutral and now can’t get the forks aligned right to fix issue. 1998

Yeah, that's a pain to fix, I'm trying to remember what I did when I did that but I think you have to slide the little rod thing that pushes the shifter into neutral over while you push the forks into neutral, there's ball detent things that have to be in the right place to move or they won't let the linkages move...
