Actually, I don't think Ford would have gotten as far as he did without the Dodge Brothers
With out John and Horus Dodge, Henry Ford would have been on his knees at Cadillac still and the Ford motor company would have gone the way of the Yugo.
OK, so I knew absolutely nothing about this...

And now I do.

Now I have an even stronger urge to stuff a hemi into a blue oval.

Damnit.

That one guy with ADHD and doesn't stop talking about cars.
I honestly wish car makers would just let the few of us have a manual, jeep still offers manual transmissions in a couple vehicles. Technically they are like the only manufacturer to sell a truck with a manual transmission that isn't a semi truck...which are now starting to get fancy new automatic trans. Hope if I ever get to have kids later in life they learn how use a manual transmission that is if cars still have four wheels and drive on the ground.

Then do it. Be different. It's your truck, build it how you want. Heck, I've contemplated a LS motor in TRS-2, but I don't have the money or facilities at the moment.

Eh, with the turbo 2.9 build hitting the assembly stage, I'm looking at getting the 53 coronet up next. Fortunately it needs paint and an interior, and that's about it.

Not sure how I'd do a hemi build, either. Probably on a 98+ for the size increases, but something tells me that would be a MAJOR project.

Would be fun as hell though.

Yes. Crazy that the Henry Ford Company became Cadillac after Henry Ford left and started Ford Motor Company.

If it wasn't for Edsel, Henry Ford would have kept making model T's until the day he died. Henry Ford didn't understand style. He didn't understand peoples desire for something better or different. The Model T was an affordable machine that could transport people. He couldn't see why people needed anything more than that. Edsel had style and wanted more. Henry couldn't see changing what was already working.

The Dodge Bros actually designed and built the Model T, but it was Henry Ford out front taking all of the credit and getting the recognition. When the Dodge Bros got fed up with him, they started their own car company.

It is well known and documented that Henry Ford was a bigot and a racist. He did not like blacks and hated Jews. He did not come right out in support of Hitler, but in Hitlers early years, was openly praised by Ford.
Even at the outset of WW ll he at first refused to assist in producing war material, and it took the Govt threatening to take control of the company for him to help.
Eventually the Govt forced him out and replaced him with his son, who was already in the Army.

Just the right size to touch the ground.
Well documented, maybe, well known, I'm not so sure. I'm 55 years old and the first I heard of Ford being a racist was on this forum a month or two ago. I'm not saying it's not true, I haven't done any research on it and don't plan to. All I'm saying is I've only recently heard this and I've read and saw a lot about Henry Ford in my 55 years.

Maybe the reason I haven't heard about it outs because he was a yankee and everyone knows all of the racists are in the South. ;missingteeth;

Simply google up"Was Henry Ford a racist and bigot"
You may be a bit shocked to learn he was a racist against blacks, a verbal anti-semantic against Jews, and an open Nazi sympathizer.
He admired Hitler and was against any type of war against Germany.
He did not like the Japanese at all, but knew if he sided with the war effort against Japan after Dec 7, then he would be forced to side with the US against Germany. Thus he did not advocate any war at all.
Even after Germany declared war against the US several days after Dec 7, he still sided with Germany and Hitlers views.

The lack of manual transmissions is mostly due to lack of sales. Everyone wants everything to be done for them, everything must be automatic. It's too much effort to turn a little switch, doors and tailgates must be motorized to close themselves so we don't have to put forth all the effort. These folks don't want manuals:

Fiat merger doesn't bother me all that much. Since the merger, not enough changed to merit concern for me.

Dodge/Chrysler still builds massive V8s with a manual behind them. Makes me happy, so, yup, I'm good with it.

Still waiting on that Dodge/Ferrari JV now that they're under the same roof, though...
I was a Fiat fan long ago, and am again since I got my 500 Abarth. Fiat always had good engineering, even if they didn't have the best steel for a while. The MultiAir system on the 1.4 Turbos and the 2.4 is pretty cool, and now it's combined with direct injection on the 1.3 Turbo. MultiAir and DI on a larger engine would be pretty neat.

In reality the Fiat 500 was heavily revised in Detroit before release here, there were a ton of things that were changed - structure, engine tuning, even the signature Abarth exhaust. I think the collaboration works pretty well. But Americans don't want little cars either, they want 4-dr automatic pickups with 3ft beds and every automatic thingy known to man.

Henry Ford published the things he thought openly, and all are still available to read. I find it better to go with first hand accounts rather than other people's characterizations.

I'd rather call some swiss racecar driver that come to america and start a business an American then some of the people that call themselves Americans today.

Looking at you Mr. "Take the guns first, Due process later."
