Good morning all, just had a thought, not that I'm ready to sell mine yet, just thinking about my options, but would there be any interest if I tried to sell my tailgate on this site? Not asking if anyone in specific wants to buy it, but would it sit for a while or would it go pretty fast?

Many years ago (15?) I tried selling a extra gen 1 tailgate I had. We were having a garage sale. On the tag I had wrote “free or best offer”, I just wanted it gone. Someone gave me $5 and said they would be back for it later. I still have it to this day, its hanging in the garage as art. You can always try.

I bought one once!
The 87 tailgate was so rusted when I got it, the tailgate got folded up and thrown in the scrap pile.

Made an entire trip home, 600 miles each way, using a trucking/moving brace that adjusts and locks in place.

I was a regular at looking in the paper, and one day I ran across an ad for a Ranger tailgate, I think it said $75.
Called him up one Saturday afternoon and asked about it, he said was still good and only wanted $50, and I made arrangements to go see it.

He brought it out, still in the box. It was brand new. He had a Ranger and got rear ended or something that messed up his tailgate, and part of the Insurance deal was to get him a new one. (ALL attachments included)
He had sold the Ranger before it arrived
I said if it fit I'd buy it, we held it up there and snap latch click, it locked in there like it belonged. I hended him the money and left, box, invoice and all. The total on the invoice was over $1100 plus shipping

This was in 2003

I mean, I don’t really know how much tailgates go for but the one I’m looking to pick up to replace it is 250$, and mine looks good no dents no rust, so I could see listing it for 150$.

I’m just thinking about replacing it with a 2005 tailgate, you know, with the small corner logo.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I sold a Splash tailgate on Craigslist last fall. Had the whole bed with it. But he only wanted the tailgate. I think I got $120 for it.

then had to pay a tow truck to get my truck back to the campground. I think my net gain for the day was about $40 or $60.

I was contemplating a bed bar at one point, thought Id try out the look, painted pvc was substantially cheaper than the real thing. Maybe had $20 in it. Didnt keep that look for long, my mother was the only one that didnt know what it really was.
