I’m about to sea foam my 4.0 litre 2011 Ranger. It only has about 58,000KM on it. But I feel like it needs to be done since it was driven very very lightly for most of its life and I think I need to clean it out the fuel economy sucks and there’s no others obvious reason i did a gas treatment. anything i should know before hand or do along with the sea foam that’s simple? Please advisss

Are you just dumping it in the gas tank? If so, no special instructions needed, just pour as many bottles as you want it. Doing the intake is more complicated.

Heard of Sea Foam only a few years ago. The youngster I confessed that to made a horrible, twisted face at me.
I have read accounts of "installing" it and everyone mentions using 1/3 can through a vacuum source on a warm engine.
Must be instructions on the can.
Also, see if you find any mention of using SF at the end of your oil's service life.
The inference I drew was that SF dissolves crud and some contaminates the oil. It's smarter to trash old oil instead of new.

What I want to do is inspect the throttle plate of my 4.0 and see if there are deposits on it's backside. Oil fumes in the residual crankcase vapors can accumulate on it, I've read. Heaven knows, the PCV valve was prit'near completely clogged with goo.

The top end spray can is easy enough, with the engine warmed up stick the hose in the intake boot and clamp it back down. Start the truck and keep the RPMs at around 2,000 by having someone sit in the truck and hold the gas pedal, or just jam something like a matchbook in the throttle linkage to hold it slightly open. Start spraying, the engine will occasionally almost stall, just stop spraying until it catches back up and then keep going. When the can is almost empty shut the truck down quickly while still spraying.

Let the truck sit for 15-20 minutes, then start it up and go for a ride and be aggressive. If you did it right your neighbors should have called the fire department...

Never put it in your oil... it's pointless. Great for the gas tank though.

Just a personal anecdote, but have been through many of the ones out there... Sea Foam products have been discontinued in my shop due to formula changes.

Best one I have found to date in leiu of seacrap is CRC 05319 - intake valve and turbo cleaner. Comes in a spray can. @rusty ol ranger used it recently if you want a review from him.

Other than that, the only other I've had any luck with is the Liqui Moly Intake Valve Cleaner. Dangerously simple to use, and works on anything from injectors down. Good stuff.

When your carbon cleaning the main thing happening is steam cleaning. Water even works well. The exact formula of what your spraying in doesn't matter as much as the procedure in which its used in my opinion. I use seafoam to decarbon stuff all the time, my truck and boat get done once a year. Anytime I work on any old equipment Ill give it a seafoam spray down. It simply works well for that purpose and is inexpensive.

When it comes to seafoam for use in oil or the fuel tank then yea the formula matters alot and I'm sure there are much better products. I use it in my gas tank cause it's cheap and does what I need it to, stops phase seperation. I would never put the stuff in my oil, there's nothing in it that could possibly benefit the oil system.

Screw seafoam.

This shit made a actual noticeable difference on my 2.9. Im gonna run another can or 2 before i swap the plugs.

Got the motor hot, sprayed in the whole can in 30sec intervals through a vaccuum port, let it sit an hour, then went out and ran it HARD for about 10 minutes.

if The front side of the plate is super clean is that a good indicator that the inside is clean? 2010 ranger 55000km driven fairly lightly but that’s what concerns me. Going to spray some sea foam into the throttle body I assume it’s like every other motor and you remove the boot stick straw Close to the plate and spray?
