SCT X4 Programmer

I have this X4 Programmer I bought a few years ago for my F150. I've used it a couple of times installing one of the stock tunes that came with it - I think is was an "Economy" tune. Never liked the way it shifted out of first - really hard.
I have been keeping it updated, downloading the updates from SCT every week or so.

Admittedly I don't know much about it. I have looked at purchasing custom tunes, but have never done it - just afraid I'll screw up my truck.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them who could point me in a learning direction. What are it's capabilities and how reliable is it. I know I paid about $400 buck for it.

Added: I don't suppose I could use it on my Ranger?

You should be able to use it on your ranger, but i think you'd have to unlink it from the F-150. You can only do that a limited number of times.

Thanks for the response. I'll check in with the SCT Forum and see what I can find out about unlinking.

If you put the F-150 back to a stock tune, and then go to the tuner status on the X4, one of your choices will be to "unmarry" the tuner. If you do that it unlocks it so you can move it to a different vehicle.

Before you can do anything on a different vehicle, you will need to buy a tune somewhere, and load that tune into the X4.

This is what I have on the programmer. Looks pretty clean and unmarried -- whatever that means.

Unmarried means that you can use it to tune any new vehicle that you have a tune for.

Once you use it to tune a vehicle, it becomes married to that vehicle and cannot be used on a different vehicle until it is unmarried from the first.
