Anybody use one in .22lr? I wasn't much of a fan of .22's but times is tuff and bullets are expensive!

Any other suggestions for a good semi auto .22 rifle? My only other .22'lrs are my ruger sr22 pistol and an old marlin model 60 that needs to retired to display duty so it needs a replacement. Has to be semi auto, and has to be mag fed not tube fed like the marlin (don't wanna deal with the legal crap of having a tube fed gun that holds over 10 rounds).

Yea they are cool and all but they cost twice what the Savage does, I just can't justify that on a .22....

I totally understand, boating is friggin tough on firearms. I can't even count how many guns I've lost at sea...

The thing about the 10-22 is they make a bunch of cool upgrades.

I'm not fond of the grip of the stock... I really want a Hogue... just haven't pulled the trigger yet. No pun intended.

Tried buying one lately?

At least in my area there are none. No store has one, no warehouse has one, no distributor can get one within 100 miles of me.

I have to admit... This gun just looks good for a .22 :icon_rofl:

And it's under $300 bucks. I've just never fired a Savage before except some rediculous .300RUM my buddy owned. That stupid thing was borderline useless.

There were quite a few used ones at PSA the other day, but even the used ones were priced north of $400. Only ammo they had was 7.62x39 and .22lr one box per customer. It was like some dystopian nightmare in there with huddled masses of itchy rednecks begging for their ration of bullets...

I'm not a ballistics expert, with .22lr is there a benefit to a 22" barrel over the more commonly used 18"?

I can hear @Dirtman at the range already...

"Most 22's have an 18" barrel, this one has an extra four" followed by "the sight is marked up to 30 yards, this one shoots a mite further"... and then before a guy knows it he is shooting at buckets. :dntknw:

This is why I'm asking! I don't know .22lr ballistics. That 4" could be detrimental for all I know. My Marlin 60 is 18.5" and back in the day it was insanely accurate.

Twist rate and powder burn play a roll I know. Most modern carridges don't benefit much from a longer barrel.

. 22lr ain't modern and doesn't have a whole lot of powder though, never thought about it before really.

Yea a longer barrel is not helpful if all the powder has burned and gas expanded before the bullet leaves the muzzle. When everyone is using 18" it makes you assume that is probably because the smart guys figured out that it's the optimal length before the bullet actually starts slowing down. If that's the case I obviously don't want a 22" barrel so I'm off the idea of getting the A22... :dunno:
