Hi everyone. So I pulled out my heads today and noticed cylinder 1 bore is more rusted than others. You could also see it on the head. Is there a reason this happened?

Also I removed the heads because of mixture of oil and coolant when I drained the oil pan. Is the head gasket the only culprit for this?

One last thing, is there a way to drain all the coolant in the engine? I removed all the hoses, top & bottom, (except water pump) but coolant is still sitting. I can't find any drain plug anywhere in the engine.

Thanks

Looks like #1 was steam cleaned so had a cracked head or blown head gasket
So rust after sitting
Just clean it

No drain on the blocks any more

If you want all the coolant out put a small hose(like longer rubber vacuum hose) down block coolant passage at lower rear(do each side) and siphon out the remaining coolant

When I cleaned inside passages of V6 block last time, I move the vehicle outside, took off the water pump and use the small hose to flush out the block
Also used a long screwdriver down all the holes to break up crud that had settled at the bottom of block, ALOT of crap came out

Thanks :)

Looking at the picture of the head, it looks like there may be a crack between valve seats in #1, but hard to tell

Send the heads to a machine shop, have them tanked & then pressure tested.

After tanking they will quite clean.
