I have a 98 ranger, 2wd 4cyl. This last tank of gas went by in only 200 miles vs the average of like 280 miles. There is excessive soot around my tale pipe. I think its running really rich. No check engine light on. What could it be?

filter was good at my last oil change. I noticed just now that there is a slight miss at idle. It runs at proper operating temp.

I'd tune it up and hit it with a new oxygen sensor to start.

try cleaning the MAF and to clean an oxy censor you use heat like a propane torch or something if that doesnt work buy a new oxygen sensor.
