I'm ready to install my intake manifold and I'm getting mixed advice on this. Fel-pro says no rtv, my 2000 shop manual says to use rtv, Haynes manual says to use small amount of rtv. I will use rtv in the front and rear

Check the condition of the surfaces where the gasket goes. There can be some pitting in the surfaces, especially if it's an alloy of some sort. That is where the RTV comes into play, getting rid of nuisance seepage caused by corroded gasket surfaces.
