Rotor possibly rubbing against back plate

It gets pretty hot where I live so I haven't spent as much quality time on this as I wanted to. I own a 2006 2WD Ford Ranger Sport. It was time to replace the front rotors. I purchased new rotors, front and back bearings, seals, and grease. My brake pads are still thick enough to be mistaken as new. Nothing seems wrong with the calipers or either spindle.

After the original installation, I heard a cross between a light grinding and clicking sound coming from the area where the front passenger-side rotor is while driving. I took it apart and couldn't see anything jumping out at me other than the grove being produced by the pad onto the front side of the rotor. The back side of the rotor seemed fine. No scratches. After putting things back together, it seems like the rotor is catching on something when going in reverse. Rolling forward, everything seems good.

Taking the tire off, nothing stands out. The rotor moves freely back and forth. With the tire installed, the rotor moves freely. When lowered to the ground, it seems like the rotor is rubbing against something. Feeling around the rotor with the wheel attached and on the ground, it seems like the rotor is rubbing up against the bolts holding the back plate. (I can't visually verify this.)

I'm hoping this might be a common issue and seeking out a 2nd or 3rd opinion on my issue.

Thank you in advance!

if its only doing it in reverse, it sounds like something is not fully tightened down. bearing? unless maybe you accidentally bent something a little?

If that's all, it'd be a real blessing. I'll tear things down this afternoon and see what happens. I'll take lots of pictures just in case.

did you bend the slotted tone ring in the back of the rotor?
did the new rotors come with bearing races already installed?
did the splash shield get bent?
is the rotor centered in the slot of the mounting bracket?
pics would help, kind of hard to hear the noise from here. :icon_thumby:
those 2 big bolts are not long enough to contact the rotor if it's properly installed. they end flush with the inside of the bracket.

among other things, I once had a small stone get stuck between the rotor and shield, made a hellofa squeal.

I just had enough daylight to pull the tire off, remove the caliper, spin the rotor for a bit.
1.) I don't know I'll have to look at it in the morning. I'm guessing the slotted tone ring runs around the hole where the backside bearings slide in.
2.) Yes. Here's the link for the rotors I purchased, https://www.ebay.com/itm/163329290126
3.) As far as I can tell, it hasn't been bent.
4.) I'm assuming so, but I'll confirm this in the morning.
5.) I took some photos from this evening's try. I'll take some more in the morning so it'll be easier to see what I'm talking about.
6.) I think you're right about the bolts. I tried to see if there was enough given for the rotor to come into contact with them, and I personally couldn't force it to make contact.

Unfortunately putting things back together resulted in the same issue. Something is getting stuck and I can't for the life of me figure out what the heck could be causing it. But I'll take things apart again in the morning and report back with more photos.

Thanks again!
