I have a VERY Interesting question to ask. What modifications do I have to do to mount 2.5 Rockwell Axles under my 1987 Ford Ranger STX. And also Can a 300HP 302 Turn the axles WITHOUT Blowing up an engine each time I drive it? One more thing Can rockwells be street legal with 35x17-17 tires?

Agreed, doubt you would have much if any clearance on 35's, and doubt ut would be street legal since you would have to lift it at least 12" to fit em. Stay tuned in my build, I'm going rocks. I'm on 47's now...

Rockwells should bolt right up, although 35's are a little big, Id go 31's max unless you want to be replacing shafts everytime you go out.

IMHO, 40's are the SMALLEST you should go with rockwells. Altho a mildly build Dana 60 and Sterling would hold up well for that size.

Do us all a flavor and google 2.5 ton rockwells and see if you can find a rig running 35's or smaller, THEN get back to us.

Now that's funny.

Ranks with the guy telling the cobra owner to flush the engine with water.

Sad thing is he believed it.

The tires are a misprint. Its actually 44x19.50-16.5 NOT 35x17-17. I know I'm going to need a BIG Lift kit Which I have a 9 inch lift picked out from a 1979 Ford Bronco. IF I Need to I WILL Go for a bigger lift. And yes the truck CAN Be street legal! With 2.5 Tons and 44 inch tires. The engine Im getting is from www.speedwaymotors.com Part number 915-3210 Yes its a Blue Print Engine with 300HP 320TQ. Everything else is coming from www.summitracing.com And www.broncograveyard.com Also www.dufftuff.com also known as James Duff. The Axles are coming from www.redbarncustoms.net Same with a few other parts. Yes it WILL Have Yukon Grizzly Lockers in it with 6.44:1 gears.

Apparently you know a lot of stuff, and can reference multiple well-known websites that most of us have already used before. Race Wars is quickly approaching. You better hurry up and get on your build...

I read once on www.pirate4x4.com, where some of the guys on www.therangerstation.com are also members, that rockwells can't be used on Gen II models. The guys on www.ranger-forums.com aren't too much help, since they have mostly Gen IV+ Rangers, but www.rangerpowersports.com may be of some use. Honestly, I would just go to www.bulkammo.com, www.luckygunner.com, or maybe even www.ammunitiontogo.com, and put those in an AR-15 to use on your '87 STX. You've got 21 posts, and very knowledgeable about ordering parts , but you forgot to include www.jegs.com for PN# 867-5309. Wait, that's this number: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkpGQUflBwU

This should at least get you started.
Step one: Cut off back half of frame, attach several feet of exhaust tubing for sliders and a good strong base for a roll cage.;missingteeth;
Setp two: place rockwell axle behind hacked up ranger

Rockwells have better diff clearance than Dana 60's although you have a lot of problems on the top of the axle due to it being a top loader
