Restore oil additive

So I recently bought a $1000 jeep xj (in was an emergency buy, I still am working towards a ranger) and in burns oil and cylinder 5 was low when I did a compression test. I saw a bleeping jeep video on the restore oil additive and he thought it was helpful. Also watched a project farm video where he said it helped. Does anyone here have any experience with it, or any reason why I shouldn't try it?

If your compression is low then oil is getting past the rings and burning up in the cylinder. No oil additive with fix your worn out rings.

A thicker oil may keep less oil from getting past the rings, thus, biting less oil. It’s entirely possible that’s what this additive does and why people think it helps.


I would try switching to like 10-40w or something to see it that reduces the oil loss any. Otherwise you could pull piston five and replace the oil ring. A lot of work for a two dollar part, but for a cheap stop gap it may make due.

reminder, the oil filter is supposed to remove stuff. I'm not sure how long the Restore would remain in the oil.
I tried some many years ago in a VW 4 cyl diesel, it didn't do anything.

If it does anything, it will be temporary. I've watched some of Bleepin Jeep's stuff. While interesting, I'm not sure he would be the "got to guy" on how to fix your Jeep.

That's kinda my thoughts on most additives that claim to be able to fix an engine that needs a rebuild.

Really, it's not much different from an additive that claims to heal a broken connecting rod and a hole in the block.

I've never had much luck with any of the leak-stop additives, no matter where they're used. Some of the radiator additives will actually make things worse by clogging the cooling system, for example. And those are nothing compared with the claims some of these other additives make.
