Replace 3.0 to a 4.0 motor

Hi guys, what is needed for my ranger, I have a 01 ford ranger with oem power doors/locks/windows conversion, What else is needed for the swap, please tell me everything as i live in CALI and need it to be state and smog legal, thanks

You will need the engine, trans, computer, and wiring harness. I believe the exhaust before the cat will also be needed. Since you live in Cali, and the governator will hunt you down for modding your truck, all of the parts must come from an 01 4.0 ranger. Your best option would be finding a wrecked ranger with all of the equipment you need, and switching everything out. Trying to do it piece by piece would be crazy dificult. It seems like a lot of money and work for very little gain to me.

There's a lot to it. Kind of one of those things that if you have to ask... If I were in your shoes and there wasn't any really special about it, I would try and sell the 3.0L Ranger and buy the 4.0L Ranger with the options you want considering that it'll have to pass those strict emissions.

X2 it's a big deal but it's not impossible. Or go to a junk yard and buy the drivetrain complete w/computer and don't forget the mass air flow sensor(MAF) they must be matched.IE not the 3.0 one that's on the truck now

I appreciate all your inputs, I have asked that myself as well, However I get all my parts for free, thats the truth, so i'm bored and wanted to do this, than again i simply swap my body on the frame of a 4.0 also, which is what i will do, actually a 4x4 4.0 saw 4 at the recycle today and i have dibs.

i asked the question once and was told it probably wouldn't be a smart thing to do? you have to look at the engine mounts to see if they match!? then was told that a 4.0 is gonna weigh more than a 3.0 and springs may need upgrading for the additional weight??? i was told just sell the 3.0 truck and get a 4.0 truck if you really want one.... my 2 cents
