i think an awd street ranger with around 300hp would just be the cats ass. if i had the time/money/skill to do it, i would have a long time ago. its an awesome idea. DO IT

well since my brother had a sycone and now has a typhoon clone, i have always thought of doing this, i have gone through every possible option i can think of to make a lowered ranger AWD, aerostar suspension and explorer tcase and stuff, but everything i come up with has a flaw that makes it unpractical, PLEASE message me if you can come up with a functional plan lol :icon_cheers:

id definatly lean towards a 5.0 explorer chassis with ranger body. maybe body drop it to get the center of gravity down a bit more and just run a regualr ranger transfer case so you can have 2wd and 4wd

just a thought rangers had a 112 in wheelbase starting in 98, 1/2 in difference from explorer. if not then a 98+ ranger frame ie. sla ifs with the older body on it could work. another benefit of 98+ ranger frame is that the explorer v8 will drop in easier than with older frame designs. since the body year you desire is older that Vin can be used for the registration and the less strict inspection rules. if you go for 95 the interior can have the 96-01 explorer v8 dash and look like factory 95 ranger without raising suspicion

i read this and had to go on youtube and watch vids of syclones and typhoons. i just imagined a ranger body instead of a S15. someone needs to build one asap.

Update.

I picked up a black '99 Ranger with an Explorer swap, auto, and AWD. It's heavy, 3800lbs. It runs nice but it isn't a Syclone, yet. I need to get it a little lower and a lot more powerful.

I've had the itching to drop a 4.6L DOHC, 5-speed, AWD t-case into a 98+ 4x4 Ranger and link the rear and throw coilovers at all 4 corners...

Let me put wheels on it. Right now it has 75 series tires on it.

My credo
The fun begins where the pavement ends
Now you have the perfect basis. Time to strip it down to bare bones and toss some power at it.

I don't think it would be that hard. Like was said before the awd explorer drivetrain but to me to be modeled after the gm version it would need a turbo v6 or maybe the 3.8l tbird sc motor which is far from bolt in. The 4.0l was a factory option so that's what I'd go with. After thinking about it it should be a mainly bolt together deal until you get to lowering the front suspension.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
the new ecoboost setup from a awd taurus or new gen explorer would be cool for this application.

or just get a awd taurus
