I'm having some issues with my Ranger. My check engine light will not go off and I have been fixing problem after problem, but it just won't go away. I've decided to get a remanufactured engine to replace my current one and my question is if I buy one, does the remained engine have to come from the same model Ranger or does it matter?

So what codes does it have and what did you do to fix it?

I don't remember the codes off the top of my head, but one is a cylinder 5 misfire and I replaced all the spark plugs. I don't remember the second one.

Get a list of the codes, generally a check engine light is not indicative of an engine failure, and there are many things that will cause a misfire other than a spark plug. How are the plug wires? Coil pack? Injectors? Give us the codes and any other symptoms before blowing a few
grand on a reman engine that may not fix your problem

Also do a compression test on all 6 cylinders (or 4)
