I have seen several pictures of 2nd gen (1989-1992) regular cab trucks that have factory speaker enclosures. My truck does not have these, I only have door speakers. If someone has an extra set of these enclosures, I would like to buy them. Shipping to 59601.
Thanks!
Mike

I've seen 2 different styles in the 'yards... I know of a half dozen near me in the 'yard.... no idea what they want for the enclosure - they want $10/ea for speakers "as is" ... most plastic they sell $1 / linear foot. So I would guess about $2-$5 each enclosure no speakers. You can do a really basic test on speakers using a 1.5 AA or C cell and watch to see if the cone moves (don't use anything higher than 1.5v). A little more effort you could cobble up something to drive em with a phone or mp3 player I would think - they would be way underpowered so you couldn't tell if they were barely blown/going out, but moderate/definitely blown would show up distorted. Nothing in the u-pick-it yards near you? Would you be willing to give ~ $15+tax (8%)+"environmental fee" (like another 1%) each and then shipping from CO?

$15 is a total guess at a price. They would ask for a 1' pigtail of wire ($1), plastic enclosure ($??), and speakers ($10).... when it isn't on the price sheet they guess/make stuff up and I bet they would come up with the price of $15 ea.

And of course as is means you might be paying $15 and only the enclosure is worth anything after full testing.

I trimmed the boxes I snagged to fit 6.5" round speakers that I had.

I would be willing to pay $15 to $20 each plus shipping. I don't have any interest in the stock speakers, so no need to bother testing.
The only P&P yard near me did not have any regular cab Rangers.
Thanks!

That is what I plan on doing.

Not mine. Seems kind expensive for what it is. But.

Edit: I'd be more likely to go this route.

I considered option number 2, but I would prefer something a little smaller like the stock enclosures. The eBay link is more than I am willing to pay.

Thanks, all!

Only problem with me/my solution is that at the moment I have no other need to go to the junkyard right this very second. And it is winter so I don't much enjoy slogging around in 28 degrees and howling 50 mph wind (I may be in CO, but it snows horizontally just like Laramie where I am). How much of a hustle are you in for em? I need to "go to town" (I live in the sticks) and would swing by the 'yard when I do it, but it might not be this week or even next. My tentative plans right now is to go to town Sat at the earliest, if the weather holds.

Definitely watch the yards. I bought one of those boxes off eBay towards the beginning of the year because I wanted to experiment with what fit for speakers. Stock appears to be 4.5 or 5" but as usual the mount pattern doesn't match anything available in that size. 4" is biggest that will fit without modification.

I think I paid ~$35 for that one and it was just the box with blown out speaker, no brackets.

A few weeks ago i was at the local yard and they had a second gens standard cab. Had two things I wanted, speaker boxes and bucket seat tracks. All I had tools for was the speaker boxes and fortunately I went ahead and got them that day, when I went back the next week the seats were gone.

Anyhow I scored both boxes, with brackets, hardware, and pigtails. They sold them as speakers and I think it was around $15 for all of it.

I am in no rush. Whenever you make your next excursion is fine by me. Thanks.

It's on my list... still digging out all the front end collision stuff from the PO (missing 3/4 of the clips and screws from when they took it apart and "fixed" it the first time).... List is starting to look like I will be going no matter what. I wouldn't make a special trip but I missed all that when I got the rest of the front end stuff and it is either put it together once correctly or do it twice.

Question just so I got it straight when I go.
A) You need the enclosure to floor brackets and screws and such right (connector/pigtail)- everything to do with em except the actual speaker inside?
B) max price is $20/ea from post #5... if I get em with out speakers it will probably be cheaper I hope - you want as much wire as I can grab (they will charge $1 / ft) or just 1' to get the connector?

A) the ones I got (same ones pictured above) the speaker is mounted to the inside of the box, and the boxes don't come apart easily. They can come apart, but it is slow going to avoid breaking. What I'm saying is that it is in your best interest to grab the whole thing and work on removing the speakers at home.

B) It's just two speaker wires going into a connector, 6" would be more than enough wire. When the time comes, if I can source the right terminals, I'll only be reusing the plastic connector body. If not I'll retain just enough of the original wire to solder onto. That said there probably between 6 and 12 inches between the connector and where it branches off the harness.

Placing any speaker in a tiny box makes them sound like a transistor radio. No bass. How about no box at all?

2 ea. 12" speakers face down on half inch standoffs. Worked for 12 years. No enclosures. Sounded really, really nice. Not infinite baffle, the front cone had some back pressure. These weren't anything fancy long throw type. Just simple plain old 12" wolfers. Today I'd try the DS18 8" wolfers on 3/4" standoffs, face down again. But this time screwed to a slab of 3/4" plywood.

Doug, we aren't talking about subs, these are regular speakers. I can't speak for MT_PLS, but for me using the tiny box is about appearance. I want to add rear speakers, most first Gen Regular Cab Rangers didn't have them, and I want to look like an OEM installation. Those tiny boxes are what came stock in the rangers that did have them.

Also there isn't room behind the seat of one of these Rangers for a down firing 8" or 12" woofer. Even standing up and 8" shallow sub almost requires the seat to be moved forward, which is less than ideal for a long legged individual. IIRC the shelf behind the seat is only 4-6 inches deep, and the space quickly gets narrower.

Speakers are in hand, I went to the yard today. Will move to PM for payment/shipping etc details.

edit: Josh is absolutely right, you can not get them open just by unscrewing all the bolts, they are glued together - requires some heat and patience... I didn't have any heat at the 'yard and wasn't real swimming in patients sitting on the tailgate with the wind howlin in my ears so I didn't even try after I figured out they are glued.

They do fit mounted face down against the back vertical wall, with the seat all the way back. Sorry I thought we were talking subs.....my bad. My '83 was a single std cab, so I know.
