I just got my woods truck put back together for another season of wheeling. Put a new floor in, changed the motor for a newer better running 2.9, and regeared the front to match the Dana 44 rear end I picked up with 4.88s and a spool. I rebuilt the front shafts with Spicer 760 u-joints so hopefully the stock Dana 35 will hold up to the 40s.
*I have 3/4 ton axles to go in this fall with 4.88 gears and radius arm front suspension.*
Here's what it looked like last fall the last time it was out. 4.56s, welded rear and 35" Mud Kings. 1" body lift and F150 coils, and hacked fenders.*

and now with grooved 39.5 TSLs, 3" body lift, F150 coils and the same fenders.*

Next to my 94 6" Skyjacker and 35s

Picked up a cap cfor $40, not sure if I like it yet.*

I like you're truck. I especially dig the puffy black things you have 4 of. They look plenty capable.

Yeah that's what 15.5" wide tires look like on 8" wide wheels haha when I bought them they were on stock Cherokee 5" wide wheels

Why another 2.9? I had it in a parts truck and had pulled my 2.9 and sold it thinking I was going to do a motor swap. Well time and ambition ran out I threw it together with the stuff I had.
Truth be told I threw it together in 10 day in between classes and work for a close friends funeral. Too many memories in that truck for it not to be there.
This fall when it gets SAS'd it's probably getting either a tbi 305 or carb'd and cam'd 350. Hate on the motor choice but I have a buddy that owes me money and has a ton of Chevy stuff, so it's pretty much free

Don't do a 305.... The only good thing about a 305 is when they needed the displacement smaller for the government to be happy.

I'm not gonna hate on a chevy motor choice bc they are cheaper and stupid easy to build, plus parts are EVERYWHERE. not my choice of motors but they kinda make sense I suppose. I just hate the 305

X2 on the 305. Even the HO's only made like 200hp or something. Not much of a Chevy fan but some of those 350's are respectable. You could always sell the 350 and get a 302 and run the TBI stuff. It's up to you though. Anything is better than the 2.9.... Except a 2.8:icon_cheers:

Yeah the reason for considering the 305 was it gets me into a v8, keeps me fuel injected, 200hp is still more than a 2.9 puts out!
What will probably go in is the mild 355 he has, he was going to put it in a mud truck but decided to build his 496 block. That motor turns right on and goes. Idk nothing's set in stone

With the 2.9 the Dana 35 will hold up to the 40's cause it can't turn em!.:icon_rofl: but anyways are you going to run a divorced T case if you run the chevy stuff so you can still have a drivers side drop? Or are you going to Chevy axles too? In that case you might as well just get a Chevy truck.

I've never been more serious. The 2.9 is pretty nutless, although this one I have now goes pretty good, and lives at 5k+ when I'm offroad. It has 4.88s now so it does alright. Plus most of the wheeling this thing sees in mud. When it breaks it breaks.
Yeah I have the divorced case and ford axles, I can run any engine and tranny combo I want if I get a 2wd tranny. Plan is a granny low 4 speed behind whatever engine I choose.
Hell if I could find a decent 6.2 diesel I'd do that.
I have all the big things to put it together, just a matter of time and ambition.

Yes. Those 40s are pretty spanked though so I'm still not worried

The 4.88's probably help a ton. But that would be a nice set up with a diesel. It's just money right? But I was thinking about running a divorced case for a while it helps with driveline angles and stuff. But the way my chassis is set up it would be a big pain. One minor thing to take into consideration is that your gas tank will most likely be in the way. But you could always shorten it or put a fuel cell in. Or if you really are trying to save money just throw the tank in the bed. But that's just 1 of many things to consider.
