Hello to all,

Just rebuilt the engine last week and finishing things up on it. New oil pump was put in but with the old shaft to run it. Started fine, oil pressure was fine then all of a sudden just started flickering real bad (from top to bottom). Engine sounded fine. Replaced the sensor, same result, so I installed a mechanical guage. Barley reads at idle. The Chilton manual says I should have 40-60 psi @ 2500 rpms. I read 25 psi (with cold engine). I have a new oil pump ordered just in case. Any ideas?

Did you send the block into the machine shop to get cleaned or checked/machined? if you did, did you check to see if the oil galley plugs were re-installed? Did you check clearance on rods and main bearings with plastigauge?

I would suspect a faulty oil pump then. Check oil pressure at the port towards the front driver side just above oil pan (ford's common spot) and at the back of the intake. If you have different pressure readings, its in the motor, if its the same, its the pump
