After doing some scouring of this forum and the lesser others, it seems there is no good resource about how the sizes of rear windows work through the generations/years. Ext cab is different than regular cab, and different groups of those cabs exist throughout the generations. (Though there is a great writeup on this forum about how to remove the windows on the early years.

I've got an 86' extended cab single window and would love to swap for a sliding rear window. What years/ cabs am I looking at to match the size?

And what about other years for ext/regular cabs for the next ranger owner who comes googling along?

It’s very simple, not including 2019+, there are 2 different windows…

All year supercab and 98+ regular cab rear windows are the same.

All regular cab rear windows up to and including 97 are the same.

98+ is when the standard cab changed to the big bolt in window. 93-97 standard cabs are still the old small window.

Thanks guys, super quick response. It’s a shame they switched to the single slider window for the newer gens. Id love to have a sliding rear window with the two sliding doors on my ‘86

I want to get a slider for the back of my 98. Knowing the difference between the years helps. Thanks for posting.

There was a post similar to this not super long ago if I remember right. I did some digging awhile back too because I was thinking of doing a rear slider in my 92

Grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s
Somekne has been selling a sliding rear window for an 87 (i think they said 87) on market place or craigslist here in corpus forever.

I think it would be nice to have on my single cab but i need feom a newer truck

Crossed threads are tight threads.
I like the single rear slider on my '93. I can work it while driving.

I want to say the single rear sliders are a little more secure than the double sliders

If single slider is more secure than double slider, the double might as well be left open, because the single is totally insecure.

The Rangers I once read, were a hot item on the theft list, and I believe it was due to the rear window.
Soon after getting mine I moved the tool box to it, which greatly inhibits any easy passage excepting for children.
I believe this also to be a factor which I heard or read somewhere decreases insurance rates for those with toppers.

That and there’s a trick to popping the door locks too from what I understand, but I’m not going to post details on an open forum because that was decided to be a no-no years ago on here.

This is likely old information anyway
If you're gonna leave it open better not have anything in the ashtray, first thing it does is blows that all over the cab
