I've done plenty of extremely tight tolerance welding jobs in the back of a truck without my fancy measuring tools and positioning tables. Patience, cool down time, tiny tacks, and lots of little wacks. Sometimes some clever use of clamps.

I don't know if I would have the guts do that with flux core though (or regular mig for that matter) but looks like you got it pretty much perfect. (I just dont weld with mig anymore).
Appreciate that. Took my time, didn't let myself get frustrated, kept taking breaks to work on the blower mount plate, etc. Came out ok.

Really didn't want to use flux core on it. Didn't have a choice, though. With the holiday, can't get gas.

Considering I'm a sh*tty welder, I'm happy.

Migs make anyone a good welder lol. Which is one of the many reasons I despise them. If you ever come out my way I've got a shed full of tanks your welcome to have so you dont run out of gas again. I dont know what they charge for hydro testing in your area though. For me it's cheaper to just constantly get more tanks and retire the ones I need to recertify. (Which is why I have a shed full of them). There's tons of old welding crap I never use anymore floating around my various sheds. My Jackson helmet pile is getting a tad hoarder-ish...

Appreciate it. Hydro testing is relatively cheap.iirc. Definitely going to take you up on that.

My guy sends them out, takes a couple weeks to get it back and it's 100 whether your tank explodes or not. Then my gas supplier charges the re-cert fee and shipping... to get a good tank back is almost 200. I can get used tanks for 25 - 50 bucks use them for the couple years they have left on the cert and then throw them in the "pile". My acetylene tank pile is even worse... can't get rid of the damn things at all.

Getting somewhere now. Construction on the blower plate, and welded the pulley together. Need to balance it tomorrow.

LMAO... that video... awesome. God Bless Dewalt!

I thought you were welding the drive hub portions together. I was confused a bit... but that is typical. Either way... nice job with the runout. I guess the next big thing is keeping it together...

Just some pre- trail ride progress pics. Held off on posting because I wanted to have it at least in before the trail ride. Ran out of time when my buddy's plasma cutter blew up as I was trimming back the mount plate.

I didn't win up using the welded chain as a rear support. Looked dumb.

Sir... your supercharger is bigger than your engine...

Sir! This is America! If I want to hang the roots blower off of a 2 stroke diesel on a 1000cc Subaru Justy, I certainly will! ?

It really isn't, though. 62ci supercharger, 177ci engine. I tried like hell to fit one of the M90s I have a pile of, and there was just no way without cutting the hood. If this one isn't efficient enough, the next step is either twin charging, or cutting the hood to dump an M90 in. Really trying to keep it a sleeper, though.

Nitrous will fit under the hood nicely.

So, the project is stalled out a bit.

I had assumed that I could make a Merkur AC bracket work for the alternator. Nope. Collides with the steering box.

So, trying to figure out a way that lets the alternator mount to the drivers side of the engine.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
If you end up needing to cut the hood to fit a supercharger, make it worth the effort.
