Realistic expectations at 100 yards with a .22lr?

Just because the ammo is not copper coated doesn’t mean it’s not coated.

most .22lr has a wax coating to it feed, but the coating will clog up the action and bore quick enough.
I was just gonna bring that up, it looks clean inside but when I got in there with a cleaning tip I found it's got a thick sticky wax like coating all over the feed ramp...

So I'm spending the evening watching cartoons and cleaning. Tomorrow I shall see if it fixes the failure to cycle issue and try and make some groups with the new ammo if it does.

22lr isn't necessarily thought to be precise anyway and half the ammo is a dud any way. I think you might like to get into this if multiple shots in the same hole is your thing. But I prefer AKs...... meat cleavers....

Crossed threads are tight threads.
.22 is already wimpy enough, I prefer bolt or lever action so it doesnt have to divert that limited energy into cycling itself. I've never had good luck with .22 semi autos feeding reliably.

I had the same issues with my Ruger Sr22 at first but since I switched to CCI copper plated rounds I have never had a round fail to fire, eject, or cycle. Same with this gun, it started out on copper plated and didn't have any issues except it not being as accurate as I had dreamed but once I ran out of copper and tried feeding it pure lead it said nope...

It is way nastier than I had thought though so a good cleaning and lube may help it swallow the lead. :dunno:

I don't have my cleaning kit here so it got cleaned with brake cleaner and 3-1 oil...

It'll get a proper cleaning when I get home but I already realized it's all chrome or polished stainless internals. They were black and I assumed they were supposed to be that color. I took a huge wad of gunk out of it, it has to work better now... :icon_rofl:

For small game, you can use a .22LR rifle out to 100 yards. Farther than that if you are a really good shot. Beyond, say 150 yards, you are plinking cans or putting holes in paper. There isn't enough energy left for an ethical kill.

I'm not that good of a shot, so I try to keep it no farther than 75 yards.

Meh I don't hunt. I just shoot paper, but it's more fun the farther away the paper is... Anything under 100 yards just seems boring to me unless it's a handgun or shotgun.

On a happy note I fixed the magazine on the .410 so I'm gonna play with that tomorrow too. I always wanted a bolt action shotgun and besides being ancient and the magazine dented this thing looks like it was hardly ever fired. Never even fired a .410 before, the shells are so adorable. :icon_rofl:
