they are most likely discontinued, however they should be easy to find at a scrap yard.

I've never heard of this problem. You may be able to get one at a dealer, however that transmisson has been obsolete a few years.

Good news is, since it is such a rare failure, the junkyard should be full of them, as mentioned above.

90% of vehicles that are over 10 years old, the dealer can't get parts for.

However, chances are they used the same part on all the truck up until they stopped using the A4LD. Meaning it could be available for say a 1994 model.

90% of FORDS that are over 10 years old.

I have very little trouble finding dealer parts for my 36 year old fullsize Chevy, or my 13 year old Toyota clone car.

For the Chevy, you do have to find a parts guy who can look away from the computer for 10 seconds and read actual paper.

NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BUT ON MY 94 MAZDA B3000 AUTO THE SHIFTER LINKAGE HAD A BALL ON THE END OF IT AND THE CABLE HAD A PLASTIC CUPLER THAT SNAPS ON OVER THE BALL.

THE PROBLEM WITH MINE WAS THE CUPLER WORE OUT AND IT WOULD NOT STAY ON THE BALL. i HAD WIRE ON IT FOR A LONG TIME, THEN TRYED TO DRILL OUT A SMALL HOLE TO PUT A BOLT THROUGH. I THINK IT IS HARDEND I HAD A HARD TIME AT IT.

SO I TOOK THE GRINDER AND CUT OFF THE BALL LEAVING A HOLE IN THE ARM AND I DRILLED OUT THE CENTER OF THE PLASTIC CUPLER AND PUT A BOLT THROUGH, DUBBLE NUTED IT SO IT WOULD PINCH THE ARM ........ MAKE SURE YOU PUT A WASHER ON IT AND THAT WHEN YOU DO IT, RIG IT UP SO THE CABLE END IS NOT TIGHT BETWEEN THE WAHSER AND THE FIRST BOLT. MY SIMPLE FIX

HOPE THIS HELPS

I would just go with jon440x's idea. Sounds like it would work better.

Yes....and no.

The shift cables are not all the same.
My '90 Ranger and my '92 Ranger both have different cables.
The difference was where they snapped into the bracket that is bolted to the transmission.
