Rangers are just the right size - you can walk up to it and touch the bed bottom!

When I'm not hauling mulch or wood, I go to the grocery store and put purchases in a couple of small collapsible crates. It is an easy reach. I can even pick up things that roll out. Try that with your full size.

I put my groceries in the back of my F-150...

I do somewhat agree, I don't like how deep beds are getting.

My Ranger is a bit bigger than I'd like (I would prefer a small to mid-sized car, and even the mid-sized car is at the top end of what I like), but it's a good compromise between handling and capability.

Being a few inches closer to the ground makes a heck of a difference when you're loading something heavy, especially without a second pair of hands!

Once or twice I loaded a second-hand washing machine/dryer into the back of my 2wd ranger by myself - just backed up to the curb it was sitting on.

Our stove got hit by lightning a few weeks ago. The platform was level with the tailgate but I didn't have the hydraulic lever all the way up and it crept down a little as I took the pic.

Backed up to the house, slid new one off, slid old one on and then off to the iron pile we went.

One thing about scrap - offloading is often much easier than loading!

My old truck I had tail gate cables off a full size chevy (they were free) and they actually let the tail gate drop down about 2 inches further than normal giving it a dove tail look and made loading a 4 wheeler without ramps easier. Just backed up to the slope and drove up it. Definitely cant do that in new trucks where you drop the gate and its about 4 feet tall. ridiculous.

I agree. I had an 08 Sport Trac. It's a freakin' Stepside bed for an F-150. The rails were almost to my shoulders. And it was only like 4.5" box, had to let the tailgate down and crawl into it just to get stuff out of it. It was almost as deep as it was long. lol

I went with a Ranger because they are way cheaper than a Tacoma. I learned that the Ranger is exactly the right size for me. :D

I don't know how my old man (5'4" tall) would have put stuff over side rails of a new F-150: 59" for my '17 4x4; even the 39" tailgate height is crazy - no wonder they include a step in tailgate. My daughter's 4x2 Ranger is <44" to side rails/~27" to tailgate. The F-150 box is almost equivalent to box stacked on top of existing Ranger box.

New trucks are crazy deep - who actually, regularly fills their truck box 20" deep?
