Just remember, it is a Ford, so be proactive with the rust control. I like using fluid film. It oozes into all the nooks and crannies and does a better job of protecting all those unsealed seals and joints underneath. The down side is that you have to reapply it every year or so but it doesn't bubble or peal off and trap water and dirt underneath like rubberized undercoating can.

If you buy an auto just be sure to check the service history and look closely at the fluid. If its nasty brown or black sludge just walk away. I wouldn't ever hesitate to get an auto as long as you can verify it's been taken care of./QUOTE]

So long as they didn't change the fluid pre-inspection! Lol

My credo
I poop in the furnace.
I think ford did a decent job with rust proofing on the later year rangers. At least way better than the older ones. My 10 year old rust belt truck only has some minor surface rust popping up on the lower door seam that I fixed a few months ago. But I have been fluid filming every fall for the past 5 or so years. Definitely should be part of your winterizing routine if you live anywhere north of the Mason dixon line. I just pay the guys at the local bedliner place 99 bucks to do it for me (I think they may use krown but it's the same type of stuff). It cost almost that much just to buy the stuff and I don't make a mess in my driveway.

I think a lot depends on the color of the truck when it comes to body rust. My 1994 is Bright Calypso green and it looks pretty good.
Noticed a lot of Rangers this color have less rust. And I live in the salt belt Mass.
BTW, I've changed just about everything on this vehicle(sometimes multiple times) except the motor. Even changed the PCM.

Well, I live in what would be classified as the great white north, lmao. Fall/winter is hard on vehicles here even though I do reside somewhere where we dont have to live in igloos year round. I'll definitely consider fluid filming all my vehicles from now on.

I'm thinking the next truck I get will be rust colored paint and trim...
