I need to replace starter on 07 Ford ranger with manual. Concerned about snapping mounting studs. Any suggestions? Am I being over cautious?

I changed out the starter on my 97 2 years ago... if ever there was a possibility of breaking something, that would have been it. Went pretty smoothly, I just had to learn how to bend my arm at weird angles around the front driveshaft to hold it while I put the bolts in.

For a few nights in a row before you do it, hit all the bolts with pb blaster.

That should help

Welcome to TRS :)

What engine, 2.3l, 3.0l or 4.0l?

Disconnect either battery cable FIRST!!!>>>>> VERY IMPORTANT

You are being overly cautious

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Do what they said. It'll be fine. About the only bolts I worry about breaking are "anything associated with the exhaust system".

If you have the 4.0 SOHC, let know if you figured out how to get the starter out of the engine bay once you get it disconnected and unbolted from the engine and transmission.
