Ranger has major blowback

ive got my 1996 Ford ranger and ive got major oil blowback and its leaking oil from everywhere. i dont know if i should fix my engine or replace it but i dont know if a 1994 2.3 will work in my 1996 2.3

i dont know if a 1994 2.3 will work in my 1996 2.3
Not without a lot of work. I wouldn't recommend it. For the amount of trouble it would be worth finding the correct engine or rebuild yours. (1998-2001? 2.5L will bolt right in.)

what about a 4.0? ive got a couple of those at work i can get for pretty cheap

what about a 4.0? ive got a couple of those at work i can get for pretty cheap
You would need wiring harness ecm and transmission but would be a good swap

Ive got the harness and everything. Any idea how long it would take

Assuming that you have everything you need to do the job and everything comes apart easily and nothing is broken and needs repair and weather or not you choose to change water pump tstat plugs and gasket /seals. Also you will need all brackets for alternator power steering and A/C..

Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 to 24 hours to complete give or take. Also depending on experience and tools

Just rember it is a big job
I think that there is a write up in the tech library for the swap.

One other thing comes to mind that you might want to consider is possible suspension work (springs up front) too handle extra weight of the 4.0l

I have no personal experience but I have seen it said on this forum that a 5.0 V8 swap is about the same difficulty as a 4.0 V6 swap.
