I have an 75 302 engine but has a reverse water pump on it. When I get a radiator where are the best places to have the hose fittings on the radiator? I'm guessing they will be in a different place than a standard rotation pump. I would think it maybe doesnt matter where the fill is? I need to measure the core support to see about what size will fit in it. I dont have the engine in yet but wanted to buy the parts before I get started. That is one of the last things I need.

Reverse rotation water pump is about the fan belt routing not the radiator

Water pumps can rotate the same direction as crank or Reverse direction of crank, it all depends on how the belt will be routed

The lower rad hose connects to the water pump, the intake manifold/thermostat housing connects to upper rad hose
So have a radiator that has these connection as close to its hose connection on the engine as practical

Flow in radiator should always be IN at the top and OUT at the bottom

Generally speaking most engines with serpentine belts use reverse flow pumps, the smooth side of the belt drives the pump, the ribbed side drives PS, alt, and AC
Not all just generally

With "V" belts they were not reverse flow as far as I can remember, everything spins the same way

Im not to sure about sbf, I wasnt sure if the outlet was in a different position or not. I have the engine wrapped up in plastic the heads arent on it yet. I could look at it and see. I only seen it before they wrapped and loaded it up in my truck. Im going to go do some measuring and see what I can get to fit. Thanks for some help.

Water pump case/housing will be the same, the impeller inside the water pump is different for regular or reverse flow
The fan belt type you use decides which style of water pump you need
No engine "needs" a reverse flow pump, its only related to the fan belt setup you decide on

Water pumps pull in the cooler fluid from lower radiator, and pump it thru the block and heads, then the now hotter fluid is sent out to the upper radiator to be cooled again

So when routing the hoses does not matter which side the radiator upper or lower is on as long as they arent bent or in the way of the serpentine belt or electric fan?

Yes. I used a Chevy rad in my race truck for a little while. Inlet and outlet are on the wrong sides for ford. I used some white plumbing pipe to route the hoses. It worked. If it had been permanent I probably would have used copper or aluminum tubing instead of plastic.

Yes, just from a practical point of view shorter radiator hoses are less expensive, so matching sides for in and out can save you money

"I dont have the engine in yet but wanted to buy the parts before I get started. That is one of the last things I need. "

1 thing I learnt doing my project was - Only BUY PARTS when you ready for them to be placed in/on the truck. I spent money on things I thought I would need, and only after when it was time to use them, they didn't fit, or was just the wrong look for what i was building. probably spent $500 - 600 on stuff that i resold, or still sitting on a shelf.

cheers

Well the radiator has to fit in the support so I have room. I dont think I have bought anything I wont use. I could be wrong. I only have a rebuilt engine and heads, wiring harness, transmission filter, driveshaft yoke, intake manifold, carb, electric fuel pump, gauges except speedo, distributor with coil and wires, flat metal needed for engine mounts just need to drill holes for v6 mounts. I try to ask a lot of question because I miss stuff or read it wrong. I understand what you mean though. I have done that with other projects, usually home remodeling projects. I think the only things left that I may need, not sure is alternator, starter, power steering pump and hoses, fuel lines for low pressure pump.
and to get off my fat ass and pull engine and clean and paint engine compartment then install 302.lol Grandpa duty gets in my way but I dont seem to mind...
